How to Transport a Painting Across the Border of Ukraine
Today, under martial law in Ukraine, control over the transportation of artworks has become more rigorous. The main goal of customs officials is to prevent the export of paintings, graphics, and sculptures that hold national cultural value and are considered part of Ukraine's cultural heritage.
To achieve this, registries of artworks that cannot be exported have been created. Additionally, the Ministry of Culture regularly updates the list of items and names of artists and sculptors whose works are prohibited from being taken out of the country.
To transport, ship, or export paintings, graphics, sculptures, or icons, an expert’s conclusion is required stating that the presented artwork does not constitute a cultural value of national importance. This conclusion serves as a permit for export outside the borders of Ukraine.
How to Obtain Permission to Export Paintings?
The specialists at ArtDom Gallery work with several experts, so we can prepare this document within 1–2 days. It will be an official document on a letterhead with an official stamp.
During the martial law period, experts can provide conclusions for contemporary artworks remotely. For this, you simply need to send via Telegram, Viber, or email (artdom.com.ua@gmail.com) a photograph (front side, general view) along with the following description:
1) Full name of the artist;
2) Title of the artwork;
3) Year of creation;
4) Dimensions (W × H, cm);
5) Medium (canvas, oil, cardboard, acrylic?);
6) Estimated value.
We forward the photo and description to the expert and send you the completed documents via Nova Poshta.
