How to Choose Boxes and Crates for Art Supplies – Expert Advice
When choosing a box or crate, it's important to consider the nature of your work and the volume of materials you use. If you frequently work outside the studio, it's best to choose lightweight models with comfortable handles and sturdy latches. For permanent storage, larger, heavier boxes with multiple compartments for sorting brushes, pencils, and paints are ideal.
Pay attention to the interior layout—removable dividers allow you to customize the space for different tools. It's also important that the drawer materials are paint-resistant and easy to clean. Artists working with large canvases may benefit from a box with an additional compartment for storing drawings and finished works.

Fiberboard crates for export: ISPM 15 and “fumigation”
To ship a painting, icon or sculpture abroad, wooden packaging must comply with the ISPM 15 phytosanitary standard — this is how destination countries such as the USA and the EU protect themselves from wood pests. In our reinforced fiberboard crates, the fiberboard sheets themselves are not subject to these requirements (they are processed wood), while the frame and stiffening ribs made of wooden slats are produced from treated wood bearing the ISPM 15/IPPC marking — the “wheat ear” stamp.
This makes our fiberboard crate an ISPM 15 export crate with a treated wooden frame. In search queries it is often called a “fiberboard crate with fumigation”, a “painting crate with fumigation” or a “wooden crate with fumigation”. We do not offer fumigation as a separate service: it is not needed when the packaging complies with the standard and bears the marking.
A reinforced fiberboard crate is suitable for the international transport of paintings and graphic works, icons, sculptures, ceramics, glassware and other fragile items. Read more in our article on the fumigation of painting crates for international shipping and on the reinforced fiberboard crates page.
