Plywood boxes
ArtDom Gallery handles art with care and offers a reliable packaging option for international shipping: plywood crates. These boxes are more durable and protect surfaces from impacts and penetrations. In consultation with the client, we select plywood sheets with a thickness of 5 to 10 mm. The heavier the crate, the higher the shipping rate. We discuss all these details in advance. We secure foam sheets inside the boxes for cushioning and protection. We also wrap each piece of art (painting or sculpture) in bubble wrap before loading it into the crate for additional cushioning and protection.
Boxes are custom-made within 1-3 days based on your requests:
- the number of paintings and sculptures that should fit inside;
- the method of fastening objects inside;
- the material from which the art piece is made (this determines whether the box is filled with additional materials - foam rubber, polystyrene foam, foamed polyethylene).
Plywood crates for export: ISPM 15 and “fumigation”
For the international transport of paintings, icons and sculptures, wooden packaging must comply with the ISPM 15 phytosanitary standard. Plywood is processed wood: plywood sheets are not subject to ISPM 15, so a plywood crate is suitable for export and for shipping a painting abroad without fumigation. If the design includes a frame, slats or skids made of solid wood, we use treated wood bearing the ISPM 15/IPPC marking.
Such crates are often searched for as a “plywood crate with fumigation”, an “ISPM 15 plywood crate” or a “plywood box for international shipping”. We do not offer fumigation as a separate service — it is not required when the packaging complies with the standard. Each plywood crate is custom-made to the size of the painting or sculpture, with shock-absorbing and protective materials inside.
