Reinforced fiberboard, plywood, OSB crates
A reinforced crate is a frame of wooden slats covered with fiberboard, plywood or OSB sheets. This packaging is used for large, fragile and valuable items: framed paintings, sculptures, icons. The material determines strength, weight and, accordingly, the shipping cost.
Fiberboard, plywood or OSB: which to choose
- Fiberboard crates are better than cardboard and are often chosen for extra reliability. Fiberboard is heavier than cardboard, so the international shipping rate is higher.
- Plywood crates are the most reliable option. 10 mm sheets give peace of mind throughout the entire international delivery, especially for expensive, one-of-a-kind works. Plywood is heavier than fiberboard, so the shipping rate is even higher.
- OSB crates are the happy medium on price: OSB is cheaper than plywood but less strong and less neat, while weighing the same. If your budget allows, a plywood crate is the better choice for a valuable item.
