Restoration of paintings and icons is the painstaking work of a restorer
We received an icon painted on canvas in a very bad condition from a customer. Having seen the pictures in messenger, we told the customer that the restoration process would take at least 4 weeks. The customer agreed and brought the painting for restoration.
The painting is medium format and had a great many flaws, among them:
- two large holes in the canvas;
- a tear in the canvas;
- in some places the varnish burned and bubbles appeared;
- loss of fragments of the paint layer;
- craquelure and stains.
In addition - the painting was on a "blind" stretcher, although it should be on a museum-quality stretcher, where it will be possible to adjust the tension of the canvas with pegs over time.
The whole restoration process took 5 weeks, but all participants were satisfied with the result. The restorer saved the painting, the customer gave the icon a new life.
We made a custom-made museum stretcher, finished all the work and in conclusion - the customer looked at the painting for more than 5 minutes because he could not believe that it was the same work.
The canvas was coated with several coats of different types of varnish to maximize the protection of the work for future years of life.
