Gubsky Igor (also Gubskiy; 1954-2022) – outstanding Ukrainian artist. 

Born on June 11, 1954 in the city of Kadyevka, Voroshilovgrad region, Ukrainian SSR, USSR (now - Kadiivka, Luhansk Oblast). Father - Gubsky Ivan Kondratyevich - artist. Mom - Lyudmila Aleksandrovna - is a housewife. He spent his childhood in Kadievka, and then moved with his parents to Voroshilovgrad.

In 1969 he entered the Voroshilovgrad Art School, from which he graduated with honors and in 1973 received a specialty as a teacher of drawing and drawing.

Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Kyiv Art Institute (workshop of Viktor Puzyrkov). In 1981, upon returning from the army, he worked in the creative workshop of the USSR Academy of Arts with Professor Sergei Grigoriev, where he studied until 1984.

The fate of the outstanding artist befell many difficult events, which led to creative stagnation.

A frequent subject in Gubsky's works are narrative portraits, which have become his calling card. The famous series “Harlequins”, “Clowns”, “Jews” found a very positive response among lovers and connoisseurs of contemporary art in Ukraine, Europe and the USA. Less often, the artist painted landscapes and still lifes. Among collectors he was often called the Ukrainian Velazquez.

Included in the Unified Art Rating with code 4A - a professional artist with an individual style and an appropriate price recommendation. One of the few artists noted by the Tretyakov Gallery as a prominent representative of the Ukrainian school of the twentieth century, together with Tatyana Yablonskaya and Andrei Kotskaya.

The works of Igor Gubsky are kept in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, in the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Russia), in the Malmo Art Museum (Sweden), in the Gorlovka Art Museum, Lugansk Art Museum, Sumy Art Museum, in private collections in Ukraine, Great Britain, Sweden, Israel, Canada and the USA.

In the 1980-1990s, works by Igor Gubsky were sold at auction in world-famous auction houses - Christie's, Phillips, and sales of Gubsky's works are also taking place today (for example, in the German auction house Galerie Bassenge).
