Nikitin Vasily - Ukrainian artist

Nikitin Vasily

Vasyl Nikitin was born on January 4, 1988, in the urban-type settlement of Vradiivka, Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine. A Ukrainian artist, he works in painting and graphic art, practices decorative and applied arts, and teaches art. He lives and works in Vradiivka.

Nikitin's journey into art did not begin at an art school. After completing secondary school, he enrolled in the Vradiivka branch of the Marynivka Vocational Agricultural Lyceum. He turned to painting later, in 2008. His first independent work was "Portrait of a Niece", which marked the beginning of his artistic career.

Formal art education came after several years of practical experience. From 2014 to 2018, Nikitin studied at the Mykolaiv College of Culture and Arts, specializing in decorative and applied arts. By that time, he already had approximately six years of independent artistic practice, as well as experience participating in exhibitions and plein-air painting events. This unusual sequence — practical experience first, followed by formal education — distinguishes his biography from a traditional academic path and helps explain the diversity of his artistic skills. Nikitin is equally comfortable working with easel painting and applied art techniques.

Nikitin began exhibiting his work in 2009, initially participating in local exhibitions and fairs featuring amateur artists and decorative arts masters. His first solo exhibitions also took place during this period.

In 2013, his exhibition activities expanded beyond his hometown. His artworks began appearing at exhibitions in Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv, and other Ukrainian cities. During these years, Nikitin also became a regular participant in Ukrainian plein-air painting events. Working outdoors alongside fellow artists remains an important part of his creative practice.

In 2015, he participated in the first international plein-air event "Koloryt – 2015" in Volodymyr-Volynskyi. That same year marked the beginning of his participation in international exhibitions and art competitions.

In 2015, Nikitin joined "Prybuzhzhia," the Mykolaiv Regional Folk Creative Association of Amateur Artists and Masters of Decorative and Applied Arts. Throughout his membership, he participated in the vast majority of the association's activities, including exhibitions, workshops, seminars, charity events, and art fairs.

In 2019, he joined the Mykolaiv youth artists' association "Drink & Draw". In 2021, he became a member of the youth association of the Mykolaiv Regional Organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. In 2022, he also joined the Mykolaiv cultural and artistic organization "Art Spokusa".

A significant part of Nikitin's artistic biography is connected with activities that extend beyond traditional exhibitions.

Since 2016, he has collaborated with the Mykolaiv charitable foundation "Assistance to Children." Over the years, this cooperation has resulted in numerous charity auctions, art sales exhibitions, fairs, and workshops. The funds raised have been used to purchase medical equipment for the Mykolaiv Regional Children's Hospital.

In 2017, Nikitin became co-creator of the social art project "Art Workshop LABORATORY", which organized free art workshops and experimental themed plein-air painting events involving young people from Mykolaiv.

In 2020, he served as co-organizer of the social art project "Velykyi Porysui", an initiative aimed at bringing together as many creative people from Mykolaiv as possible for a large-scale outdoor painting event in the city's main square.

From 2018 to 2022, Nikitin directed the art studio "Lehka Shkola" ("Easy School"). Since 2022, he has been teaching fine arts and decorative and applied arts at the Vradiivka Children's Music School. In doing so, he returned to teaching children in the very community where his own artistic journey began.

Vasyl Nikitin's paintings are held in museums in Ukraine and in private collections across six countries: Ukraine, Italy, the Czech Republic, Germany, Israel, and the United States.
