Oleshchuk Volodymyr - Ukrainian artist

Oleshchuk Volodymyr – a talented Ukrainian artist, renowned for his profound understanding of iconography and masterful command of painting on canvas. Born in Ternopil in 1972, he has traversed a significant creative path, from the restoration of prominent landmarks to bold experiments in abstract painting, video art, and NFTs. His works are distinguished by a particular sensitivity to light and color, filling the space with energy and emotional depth.
Volodymyr Oleshchuk's artistic education began at the Ivan Trush Lviv College of Decorative and Applied Arts (1987-1991) and continued at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, from which he successfully graduated in 1997. From 1999 to 2004, his professional activity was associated with the "UkrZakhidProektRestavratsiya" Institute, where he worked as an icon painter. This period became an important stage in his development as a master of iconography, as he participated in the restoration of such iconic structures in Kyiv as the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, as well as monuments in Poltava and Lviv.
Since 2012, Volodymyr Oleshchuk has been a member of the National Union of Icon Painters of Ukraine, which underscores his authority and significant contribution to the development of this ancient art. Alongside iconography, the artist actively works in the field of easel painting, exploring various techniques and introducing his own innovations. He is interested in the technology of painting and levkas (gesso), and he willingly shares his knowledge by conducting master classes and seminars.
Recently, Volodymyr Oleshchuk's creative explorations have been directed towards abstract painting, where he boldly experiments with form, color, and texture, striving to convey inner experiences and emotional states. Furthermore, the artist shows interest in contemporary art forms such as video art, photography, music, and NFTs, expanding the boundaries of his creativity. He is the author of video art in the musical and theatrical project "Antonych at Home" with Yuriy Andrukhovych (Lviv, 2014) and the set designer and author of video art in the opera-myth "Ukraine – Terra incognita," dedicated to Vasyl Slipak (Lviv, 2021).
Volodymyr Oleshchuk's works have been presented at numerous Ukrainian and international exhibitions in Poland, Croatia, the USA, and Switzerland, as well as at plein airs. His landscapes are distinguished by their vibrancy and emotional appeal, while his abstract canvases possess a deep philosophical meaning. Art critic Roman Yatsiv aptly characterizes his painting as " живописные структуры из чистых, открытых красок, энергетически соединяющих физический свет с духовным" (painterly structures of pure, open colors, energetically connecting physical light with the spiritual).
The artist himself admits that the greatest source of his inspiration is light in all its manifestations. "It can unite, cut, envelop, break, color..." – shares Volodymyr Oleshchuk. His work is a constant dialogue with the world, an attempt to recreate what is seen and felt on canvas, inviting the viewer to their own emotional experience.
