Aleksandr Breskin - Ukrainian artist

Breskin Aleksandr

Aleksandr Breskin (born in 1947, North Korea) is a Ukrainian painter, graphic artist, and designer. He has lived and worked in Kyiv since 1955. His artistic practice encompasses easel painting, graphic art, decorative arts, and experimental techniques.

He received his artistic education at a children's art school and the Kyiv Art College, graduating in 1974. For seven years, he studied at the private studio of artist Yurii Malyshevskyi. He is a member of the Kyiv Union of Book Artists and the Professional Union of Graphic Artists of Kyiv.

Aleksandr Breskin's artistic work combines traditions of Ukrainian folk art, decorative painting, Expressionism, and Surrealism. The artist works with oil paints, acrylics, watercolors, tempera, and mixed media, paying particular attention to color relationships, the rhythm of lines, and expressive composition. His artworks are distinguished by rich colors, a free interpretation of form, and the combination of realistic imagery with elements of fantasy.

The artist's main sources of inspiration are nature, music, and the surrounding world. Through the interaction of light, color, and texture, Breskin explores the emotional perception of reality, themes of human existence, and harmony with nature. His works combine philosophical reflections with an uplifting and life-affirming approach to artistic expression.

Throughout his artistic career, Aleksandr Breskin has held more than 20 solo exhibitions and participated in international art projects. Notable events include a retrospective exhibition at the Kyiv Museum of Cultural Heritage (2007), solo exhibitions at the Museum of the History of Kyiv (2010, 2017), and participation in an international biennale at the Majdanek Museum in Poland (2004). In 1988, he received first prize at the Kyiv City Art Competition.

The artist's work has been featured numerous times in Ukrainian newspapers and art publications. In 1997, a postage stamp featuring a reproduction of his painting "Saint Sophia of Kyiv" was issued, followed by postal envelopes featuring his artwork "Revolution of Dignity" in 2014–2015. The international television channel UTR dedicated two documentary films to the artist: "Colors of My Paths" (2007) and "Harmony of Illuminated Colors" (2010).

Artworks by Aleksandr Breskin are held in the collections of the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the National Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Art, the Museum of the History of Kyiv, the Kyiv Museum of Cultural Heritage, and the Hetman's Capital Historical and Cultural Reserve in Baturyn, as well as in private collections abroad.
