“Towards the Light” is a lyrical landscape by Elena Mykhailenko, in which the natural setting becomes an image of moving toward light and inner balance. At the center of the composition is a winding path that crosses a flowering meadow and leads into the depth of the scene. It guides the viewer’s gaze toward the sunlight near the horizon, creating a sense of perspective and inviting the viewer to imagine continuing along the path.

The landscape is filled with soft shades of green, olive, blue, and lilac. Light golden and cream tones in the sky convey the glow of the sun breaking through the clouds. The contrast between the cool sky and the warm light near the horizon creates a distinct sense of airiness. In the foreground, white wildflowers stand out against the grass, adding lightness and a painterly rhythm to the composition.

The spatial arrangement plays an important role. The winding path forms a flowing line that connects the foreground with the distant hills. A group of trees on the right balances the open space on the left and creates a natural boundary for the composition. The layers of hills gradually dissolve into a light haze, enhancing the sense of depth and spaciousness.

The loose oil brushstrokes convey a variety of natural textures — the softness of grass, the density of foliage, the transparency of the sky, and the uneven surface of the country path. The artist does not pursue photographic accuracy, instead focusing on the overall impression of light and the surrounding nature. Impressionist qualities emerge in the depiction of the atmosphere and light, while Post-Impressionist features are evident in the expressive color patches and textured surface.

The title “Towards the Light” emphasizes the painting’s compositional idea. The path becomes a symbol of movement, while the sunlight serves as a guiding point and a source of hope. The landscape conveys a calm, contemplative mood and a sense of space opening up before the viewer.

The painting would suit a living room, bedroom, study, or a quiet reading nook. Its natural palette would complement a light interior, natural wood, textiles in muted shades, and understated decor.

This original work by Elena Mykhailenko will appeal to admirers of contemporary landscape painting, soft color palettes, and artworks in which the beauty of nature is revealed through light and atmosphere.
