Olena Mykhailenko — Contemporary Ukrainian Artist, Landscape Painting

Olena Mykhailenko is a contemporary Ukrainian artist who primarily works in oil landscape painting. Her paintings explore the beauty of nature, the expressive power of light, and the emotional perception of the world around us. Her work combines observations of real landscapes with a desire to convey feelings, memories, and impressions inspired by a close connection with nature.

Biography and Artistic Journey

Olena Mykhailenko was born on August 28, 1991, in Kyiv, where she continues to live and work. During the warmer months, she also paints in her summer studio in the Kyiv region. The surrounding natural landscape serves as a source of inspiration and a place where she develops her landscape paintings.

Olena's interest in art began in childhood, although her professional path initially led her in a different direction. She studied finance but returned to her long-standing desire to pursue art at the age of 25. Her early artistic explorations focused on illustration, which eventually led her to oil painting.

Olena does not have formal academic art training. Her development as an artist has been shaped by independent study, exploration of painting techniques, and a continuous search for her own artistic language.

Artistic Style and Sources of Inspiration

The work of Arkhip Kuindzhi has had a significant influence on Olena Mykhailenko's artistic vision. His distinctive approach to light became an important reference point in her understanding of the expressive possibilities of painting.

For Olena, light is more than a means of depicting illumination and volume. Through light, she seeks to portray the world as a child might perceive it: vivid, magnificent, and filled with the anticipation of something wonderful.

Nature remains the artist's primary source of inspiration. She enjoys painting from life and observing changes in light, atmosphere, and the natural colors of the surrounding landscape. Her goal, however, is not photographic accuracy but the expression of emotion, the feeling of a particular moment, and her personal response to what she sees.

In some of her works, colors become more vivid than they appear in reality. This approach reflects Olena's desire to preserve the immediacy of a child's perception, when the world seems boundless and happiness is found in simple things. Through her landscapes, she seeks to evoke nostalgia for this sense of openness and joy.

The Original Series “Field” and “From Dreams”

Two original series hold a special place in Olena's work: “Field” and “From Dreams.”

The “Field” series consists of eleven paintings, three of which have already entered private collections. Some of these works were created directly outdoors during plein air painting sessions, where the artist observes nature and works with changing natural light.

The “From Dreams” series comprises four paintings and holds particular personal significance for the artist. These works are connected with places of strength, where real landscapes intertwine with memories, inner experiences, and intuitive impressions.

In both series, the landscape becomes more than a depiction of nature; it also serves as a way to express an emotional state. For Olena, painting can communicate more than a visible image: it can preserve the mood and inner experience present during the creation of a work.

Olena Mykhailenko's Contemporary Art

Olena Mykhailenko does not seek to confine her work to a style defined once and for all. For her, art is an ongoing process of exploring the world and her own inner experience. She continues to seek new ways to express her feelings, thoughts, and impressions through painting.

Her landscapes reflect a particular sensitivity to nature, light, and color intensity. Through familiar natural motifs, Olena explores themes of memory, childhood perception, and the emotional connection between people and the world around them.
