"Heat" is a summer still life set right by an open window. In the centre of the horizontal canvas stands a pale coffee pot with a curved spout and a tall handle, and a lush bouquet of blue flowers rises out of it. On the left, three lemons lie on the white tabletop, a fourth has rolled up to the coffee pot, and a single daisy has been dropped nearby. On the right, a living clump of daisies with yellow centres, long stems and juicy grass bursts into the frame. The upper part of the painting is taken up by the dark emerald opening of the window in a white frame, while blue shadows of the window bars stretch across the table, turning its surface into a glowing grid of lines.

The work is painted in Yegor Dulin's recognisable manner: thick, broad and fast, with clear palette knife work. The petals of the blue bouquet are laid in separate dense slabs of paint, the lemons are modelled with a few juicy movements, and the grass on the right is painted in long sweeping strokes through which the canvas texture shows here and there. The blue flowers are painted so that every petal catches the light, and the bouquet seems to stir in the breeze from the window. The white background is not flat: it holds raised strokes tinted with lilac, blue and warm ochre. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower left corner in Latin letters, Yehor Dulin.

The heart of this work is the feeling of a scorching noon. The white table is literally bleached by the sun, and every shadow on it is cool, blue and lilac, as happens at the brightest hour of the day. Against this light field the lemon yellow of the fruit and the daisy centres, the deep ultramarine of the bouquet and the fresh green of the grass ring out especially clearly. The dark window above acts as a cool counterweight, hinting at a shady garden beyond. The mood is light and holiday-like, carrying the scent of lemon and a summer meadow.

Yegor Dulin is a Ukrainian painter and a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 2010. His personal style combines academic training with the expressiveness of plein air painting. His works are held in private collections in Ukraine, the USA, the United Kingdom, France and other countries.

At 85 × 60 cm, the painting comfortably anchors a wall above a sofa in the living room, a dining table or a chest of drawers. Its light white and blue palette with yellow accents suits Scandinavian, Mediterranean and contemporary interiors, and in a kitchen or dining room it adds sunshine even on a grey day. "Heat" makes a warm gift for a woman who loves flowers and summer, and a fine present for a colleague or partner who values lively original painting. The canvas comes on stretcher bars, so the painting is ready to hang straight away.
