"Herbs" is a landscape that places the viewer not in front of a meadow but inside it. Almost two thirds of the vertical canvas are filled with tall meadow grass seen in close-up: small white flowers glimmer among the green stems, lilac and pink flower spikes rise up, blue spikelets flash and patches of dry grass glow rusty orange. Higher up, the space opens into depth: beyond bands of pale flowering fields runs a golden ochre strip, then green stretches of plain, and at the very horizon lie blue hills under a pinkish peach sky. The high horizon and the rapid upward movement of the grass create the sense of stepping into a field in bloom.

The painting is executed in thick, energetic impasto with brush and palette knife. The grasses are rendered with long slanting strokes that all lean one way, as if bent by a gust of wind, while the white flowers are short dense petal-like dabs sitting on the canvas as separate raised drops of paint. The distance, by contrast, is built with broad horizontal movements, and this change in the pace of the brushwork conveys depth beautifully. Close-up details reveal the lively texture of the paint layer. The artist's signature, Yehor Dulin, is in the lower right corner.

The palette rests on countless shades of green, from silvery olive to bright grass green, interwoven with lilac, blue, pink and warm orange notes. The sky and the distant hills are painted in soft pastel tones, so the whole landscape is filled with the diffused, slightly hazy light of a summer evening or early morning. The mood is calm and alive at the same time: you can almost hear the meadow rustle and smell the air warm with grass and wild flowers.

Behind the lightness of this landscape lies a serious school: Yegor Dulin spent more than ten years in academic training, from a children's art school to the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts and the H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University, from which he graduated with a master's degree in 2011. Since 1999 the artist has regularly taken part in regional, national and international exhibitions and plein air events.

The vertical 50 × 60 cm format fits neatly on a narrow wall, beside a window, above a bedside table or a desk. The soft green palette is soothing, so the painting suits a bedroom, a study or an office, and in a living room it feels like a window opened onto summer nature. It sits especially well with natural wood, linen and light walls. "Herbs" is a lovely gift for a woman who adores wild flowers and a thoughtful present for a colleague or partner who needs a corner of nature in a city flat or office.
