The still life "Lilies and Daisies" is built around a single lush bouquet in a faceted crystal vase standing on a sunlit white table. On the right and at the top, large yellow lilies open up, with orange hearts and dark speckles on their petals, their pointed petals reaching upwards and outwards. On the left the bouquet spills into a cloud of small daisies and white wild flowers that hang down almost to the edge of the canvas. On the right a few daisies have strayed from the bouquet and hang in the air as light white dots. The vertical format emphasises the upward growth of the bouquet, while the blue-violet wall behind and the slanting blue shadows on the table create space around the vase.
The painting is executed energetically in impasto with palette knife and brush. The lily petals are modelled with thick slabs of yellow and orange paint, the speckles are placed with quick short touches, and the daisies emerge from a multitude of small white strokes sitting on the canvas as raised dots. The crystal vase is painted with a few confident movements: faceted highlights, the green of the stems in the water and transparent blue reflections. The background is laid in with broad strokes of different shades of blue and lilac, and long sweeps of paint are visible on the table. In the lower right corner are the artist's signature and the year: Yehor Dulin 26.
The colour structure of the painting rests on a strong and joyful contrast: sunny yellow lilies blaze against the cool blue-violet background, the white daisies echo the whiteness of the table, and the green of the leaves links the warm and cool tones. The light is bright daylight, and the shadows on the table are blue and transparent, as if the bouquet were standing on a windowsill at summer noon. The work is full of lively summer energy and a festive feeling, yet it remains harmonious and easy on the eye.
Yegor Dulin is the winner of the "Best Artist 2019" competition at the international plein air in Vinnytsia and holds the medal "For Service to Art" from the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. His works were shown in the all-Ukrainian project "Picturesque Ukraine 2019" in Kropyvnytskyi, which brought together about 300 of the country's artists.
At 60 × 80 cm, the painting makes an expressive accent in a living room above a sofa or console, in a dining room, a kitchen or a light bedroom. The combination of yellow and blue looks especially good in interiors with white, grey and sand-coloured walls, light wood furniture and Mediterranean style. "Lilies and Daisies" is a wonderful gift for a woman for a birthday, an anniversary or a housewarming: a bouquet that brings joy every day and never wilts. The canvas comes on stretcher bars, so the painting can be hung right after purchase.
