"Como Waterfront" shows a corner of an Italian town on the shore of Lake Como. On a headland to the right, pale houses with arches and rows of windows crowd together, dark treetops rise above the roofs, and boats are moored at the water's edge. Almost the entire upper half of the canvas is taken up by the mass of a mountain painted in saturated blue, while the lower half is the glittering surface of the lake. On the left a small white launch with a canopy and an outboard motor rocks on the water: it balances the dense buildings on the right and sets the scale of the whole space. The shoreline recedes diagonally, and the eye moves naturally from the boat to the waterfront.

The palette-knife work is especially evident here. The mountain is built from broad, flat slabs of paint with sharp edges and breaks, the water from hundreds of short horizontal strokes of reflected light that stand out in relief. The impasto texture catches the light, so the surface of the painting changes with the lighting in the room. The architecture of the waterfront is suggested in general terms, without fussy detail: a few precise touches convey windows, balconies and the warm light on the façades. This is painting that grew out of plein-air practice, where the main thing is to capture the state of the light quickly and confidently.

The colour scheme is built on the contrast between deep cobalt blue and the almost white shimmer of the water. Lilac and violet veins show through in the mountain, while yellow, pink and blue reflections of the houses and boats flash on the water. The sunlit façades are painted in warm ochre-yellow and pale blue tones, and the dark green of the trees adds depth. The painting conveys a bright sunny day, when the lake dazzles with reflected light and the mountains rise behind the town like a solid blue wall.

Italian motifs are no accident for Yegor Dulin: he took part in the international plein-air "Italy – 2019". In 2024 his painting "The Alps" appeared in the film "12", shot by the Warner Bros studio in California. His signature style combines the academic school of easel painting with the expressiveness of plein-air art, and this landscape is a clear example of it.

The 60 × 45 cm format is convenient for interiors: the painting does not need a huge wall and looks good in a living room, a study, above a console table in the hallway or paired with other landscapes. The rich blue becomes an expressive accent in a light Mediterranean or Scandinavian interior, as well as in an office or meeting room. It is a great gift for someone who loves Italy and travel, who remembers a trip to Lake Como or dreams of one — a colleague, a business partner, a man or a woman.
