In "Bouquet of Yellow Lilies" the flowers stand in a white vase that appears only as a small edge at the bottom of the canvas, so all attention goes to the bouquet itself. A dense bunch of green leaves and stems rises from the vase, and above it yellow lilies open wide: some face the viewer, others are shown in profile, and at the top elongated buds with orange tips reach for the light. The bouquet fills almost the entire upper part of the painting and spreads out from the centre, with a small flower on a thin stem visible to its left. The background is a continuous blue-violet with light blue and lilac transitions and a soft shadow to the right of the vase.

The work is done in Dulin's recognisable impasto manner: the petals are laid on with broad sweeps of the palette knife, the paint lies in a thick layer showing raised ridges, and the dark speckles and stamens are marked with quick dabs. The leaves are painted with sharp, short strokes in different shades of green. The background is dynamic too, with large strokes of blue, violet and light blue running in different directions. The signature "Yehor Dulin" is in the lower left corner.

The colour foundation of the painting is the contrast of sunny yellow with deep ultramarine and violet. This classic complementary contrast makes the lilies especially bright: they seem to glow against the dark blue background. The juicy green of the leaves and the white vase add freshness. The mood is joyful and at the same time slightly evening-like, as if the bouquet had caught the last bright ray of sun in a twilight room.

Yegor Dulin was born in 1985; his painting combines academic training with the expressiveness of plein-air work. His path to the profession included a college of culture and arts and a state institute of culture and arts, where he specialised in easel painting. The artist has held solo exhibitions in various cities of Ukraine, and his works are in private collections in Ukraine, the USA, Canada, France and other countries.

The 50 × 70 cm format looks good above a chest of drawers or a console table, on a wall section in the living room or in a bedroom. The rich blue background supports interiors with dark walls, velvet fabrics, wood and brass, while in a light room the painting becomes a bright colour accent. Thanks to the dense texture of the strokes, the work is rewarding both up close and from a distance, so it suits a small room as well as a wide wall. It is a warm gift for a woman for a birthday, an anniversary or simply as a token of attention, and a beautiful gift for a colleague or partner.
