How to establish the authenticity of a painting, graphics, sculpture?


As a rule, if the work is by a little-known artist, a verbal consultation will be enough for you. It will save you money and time. Also, if the artist or sculptor is alive, you can contact him or her. This will be the best proof of originality:

1. for example, the artist will take a painting with his work in his hands or next to it;

2. or, for example, you could ask the artist to write a handwritten note: "The painting "__________", size __ * __ cm, in oil paints on canvas painted by me, ____FIO____ in ____ year. Date and signature."

Attribution of the painting, authorship, expertise, artist with a painting


If a painting, graphic or sculpture of a famous, expensive artist and it is no longer with us, our specialists refer to 1) holders of the fund of works of the given artist, sculptor or 2) leading experts.

1) Holders of such funds are state museums and institutes which can take your work and compare it with their own works of the same author - see style, period of creation, study the signature, materials and paints. The result of such a study will be an expert opinion, which will include all the data - the name of the artist, period of creation, description of the plot of the work of art and more.

2) Leading experts have extensive experience with the works of certain artists, sculptors (for example, someone specializes only in the works of Nikolai Glushchenko, someone specializes in Vasylkivsky Serhii). These experts value their own reputation, so extremely responsible attribution and signing each conclusion.
