The plot shows two men untying knots and holding an already straight rope. This scene sends the viewer to the Virgin Mary untying the knots, whose history dates back to the distant 17th century. Mary untangling the knots is a type of depiction of the Virgin Mary in Roman Catholic iconography in recent times. According to legend, around 1610 the Bavarian nobleman Wolfgang Langenmantel approached the Augsburg Jesuit Jacob Rehm with a request to reconcile him with his wife. The family was headed toward divorce, which in Bavaria at the time was unthinkable. Röhm ordered the husband to bring the ritual ribbons used in weddings and prayed over the ribbons "that all knots might be untied and disputes resolved." Legend has it that in doing so Remus experienced an apparition of the Virgin Mary. The spouses managed to come to an agreement and around 1700 their grandson Hieronymus Langenmantel (by that time Abbot of St Peter's Monastery) commissioned Johann-Melchior-Georg Schmindler to paint a picture in memory of the miracle that took place in 1610.

Thus, the legend of solving everyday problems by untying knots, has survived to this day. Therefore, such a subject is often used by artists who have been inspired by stories of ancient legends and wish to give old myths a new lease on life.

Author's handiwork - the author himself prepares the figure of wax, applies a clay layer, then - melted wax. Only then pours the metal. After, the author makes the final touches and the figure is ready. The whole process, from the sketch to the finished figurine takes about 3 weeks. So, the master can create though a little, but very original, funny and beautiful sculptures.
