The square painting "Harmony of Contradictions" is built around a single powerful tree. Its curving trunk rises from the lower part of the canvas slightly left of centre and spreads into gnarled branches that run beyond the top and left edges. Thin dry twigs are drawn against the sky like a web. To the left stands a slender young tree, and to the right of the main trunk hangs a twisted branch. Behind the tree lies hilly country: wavy green bands alternate with fiery patches, and at the bottom the tree casts a dense blue shadow on the bright grass.

The work is painted in oil in an expressive manner close to Modernism. The artist reduces forms to large colour planes with soft ragged edges and deliberately abandons natural colours: the trunk and shadow become deep blue, the sky orange and the grass lime green. At the same time the drawing of the branches is precise and confident, revealing the hand of an experienced master. The title offers a key to the picture: colours and forms of opposite character balance each other and form a unified image. The signature "Швидюк" with the date is in the lower right corner.

The main effect comes from the clash of cool blue with red-hot orange and red. The sky and distant hills seem engulfed in the flames of sunset, and the cobalt silhouette of the tree stands out vividly against them. Dark green strips of land and pale bluish-white gaps in the crown add depth, while the lemon-green grass below brings a note of freshness. The mood is energetic and uplifting but not anxious: here the contrast of colours produces not conflict but balance.

Serhiy Shvydiuk has devoted more than thirty years to art and takes part in city and international exhibitions. In his work he strives to grasp and convey the beauty and uniqueness of the world around us.

The square 80 × 80 cm format is easy to place: the painting looks good above a chest of drawers or console, above a sofa in the living room, in a study, meeting room or hallway. Its vivid palette will enliven an interior in neutral white, grey or graphite tones and support bold accents in orange or blue. The work suits those who love expressive contemporary painting and will make a memorable gift for a man, a manager or a business partner, or for anyone who values energy and character in art.
