Echo of Light is a large horizontal landscape in which a familiar park or woodland motif is transformed by unusual colour. The composition opens with two tall trees: on the left rises a tree with a wide, umbrella-like crown, on the right a tree with a lacy network of thin branches. Between them and across the whole middle ground stretches a dense band of bushes and trees, while the lower part of the canvas is occupied by water reflecting the trunks, foliage and sky. In the very centre, at the water’s edge, a small golden patch of light flares up, and the lines of the landscape converge on it.

The work is painted in oil in a manner close to post-impressionism and modernist painting. The artist builds form not with the local colour of objects but with colour planes and short strokes: trunks, crowns and reflections are worked with rhythmic touches of the brush, while the sky is painted with smoother, lighter fields. The lacy branches of the right-hand tree are drawn with fine lines, revealing the hand of an experienced graphic artist. The artist’s signature with the date appears in the lower right corner.

Colour is the heart of the painting. The landscape seems lit by a sunset or ghostly light: trunks and crowns are painted in fiery red, scarlet and coral, among which dark green and emerald masses of foliage flare up. The sky is rendered in lemon yellow with turquoise gaps, and this cool accent makes the red even more intense. The reflections in the water repeat the palette of the upper canvas in deeper tones. The atmosphere is both solemn and mysterious, as if the viewer were seeing a familiar world at a moment of special light.

Serhiy Shvydiuk is a professional Ukrainian graphic artist and painter. He graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv, where he studied at the faculty of graphic design. The artist has worked in various graphic techniques, in particular lithography and engraving, and today easel painting has become his main field of work.

At 125 × 105 cm, the painting becomes the central focus of a room. It will confidently take the wall above a sofa in a spacious living room, a hall, a meeting room or an executive office. The rich red and yellow palette looks especially striking on light neutral walls — white, grey, beige — and in contemporary interiors with minimalist furniture. The work will be a memorable gift for a man, a collector of contemporary painting or a business partner who appreciates bold colour choices. From a distance the painting reads as a single colour image, while up close it reveals a wealth of painterly detail.
