"Silence of a Summer Morning" is a vertical landscape seen as if from the level of the grass. In the foreground is a summer meadow in bloom: scarlet and pink poppies, white daisies with yellow centres, violet lupin, crimson flower spikes at the left edge, a blue cornflower and small yellow flowers in thick greenery. Above them all a pink daisy rises on a slender stem, standing out against the sky. Beyond the meadow, hills rise gently, the dark crown of a tree shows on the left, and the distance dissolves in morning mist. Thanks to the low viewpoint, the viewer seems to be standing among the flowers.

The painting is executed in oils. The foreground is worked out with care and detail: the poppy petals are rendered in translucent layers through which the sun seems to shine, the daisies in precise light strokes, the stems and blades of grass in fine lines. The background, by contrast, is treated broadly, with soft blurred transitions that create a sense of airy haze and depth. This combination of detailed and blurred painting is close to the photographic effect of a shallow depth of field. The artist's monogram is in the lower right corner.

The palette is fresh and light: lush green grass, scarlet and pink poppy accents, white daisies and the cool blue of the sky. The hills are wrapped in milky grey mist with warm ochre and pinkish glints — the morning sun is only just beginning to break through the haze. The mood is quiet and peaceful, full of the anticipation of a warm day.

Pavel Gustov is a contemporary Ukrainian artist from Khmelnytskyi, born in 1971, who has been painting for more than 30 years. He studied at the children's art school in Khmelnytskyi and at the Kosiv College of Folk Arts and Crafts. Classical Impressionism has had a strong influence on his painting: he is interested in the changeability of natural light and in capturing a fleeting impression, and Ukrainian landscapes and images of nature hold an important place in his work.

The vertical 50 × 70 cm format is well suited to a bedroom, living room or a narrow wall in a hallway. The light, natural palette fits Provence, country and contemporary classic interiors and brings a sense of summer and fresh air into the room. The painting will make a warm gift for a woman, a mother or anyone who loves wildflowers and rural landscapes.
