"Still Life with Flowers" is a lavish vertical floral still life. Almost the entire canvas is filled with a sumptuous bouquet in a green vase: large cream and pink roses, white-and-pink peonies, lilac and violet blooms, and above them light white sprays of tiny blossoms and slender grass stems. In the foreground at the bottom lie a bunch of pale green grapes and deep crimson flowers, balancing the light mass of the bouquet and creating a sense of abundance.

The work is painted in oils in a free, expressive manner. The rose and peony petals are sculpted with thick impasto strokes that convey their volume and velvety texture, while the leaves and background are painted more thinly with broad brushwork. The grapes, by contrast, are rendered softly and carefully, with highlights that bring out their translucency. The canvas is coated with matte varnish and its edges are painted white, so it can be hung without a frame. The artist's signature "M. German" is in the lower right corner; according to the artist, the work is also signed on the back.

The palette combines delicate pinks, creams and whites of the flowers with deep blue-green tones of the background and foliage. In the upper right corner the background lightens to a warm gold, as if daylight were entering the room, while the dark lower part with crimson accents gives the composition stability. The mood is festive and generous, full of the feeling of summer abundance.

German Medvetsky is an Odesa painter who graduated from the M. B. Grekov Odesa Art College and the Faculty of Architecture of the Odesa Civil Engineering Institute. Formal still lifes and flower paintings hold an important place in his work; his painting is distinguished by rich colour, dynamic brushwork and careful attention to composition.

The vertical 50 × 70 cm format suits a living room, dining room or bedroom — above a chest of drawers, a console or a dining table.
