"Ocean under the Moon" is a horizontal night seascape. Almost half of the canvas is taken up by a sky covered with ragged clouds, through which a bright full moon shows on the left. Its light falls on the water in a broad silvery path that runs from the horizon to the shore. Below lies the calm surface of the ocean with rows of low waves that foam into white crests at the water's edge, while a warm glint is reflected in the wet sand of the foreground. The horizon line runs slightly above the middle, giving the composition a calm, balanced feel.
The painting is executed in oils in a realistic manner. The waves are rendered in rhythmic horizontal strokes and the moonlight in small, precise touches of light paint that shimmer on the dark water. The clouds are painted in soft layers with blurred edges, and their glowing rims around the moon are made with light, pale drags. In places the texture of the canvas shows through the thin layers. The signature "T. Matviiuk" and the date "2026" are in the lower right corner.
The palette is restrained and deep: grey-blue, graphite and mauve tones in the sky, the cold blue of the ocean with silvery highlights and a pale yellow moon. The only warm accent is the brownish-gold reflection on the sand at the water's edge. The atmosphere is quiet and contemplative — night, moonlight and the steady sound of waves that invites you to listen.
Tetyana Matviyuk is a contemporary Ukrainian landscape painter. Her work is a sincere dialogue with nature, and among her favourite motifs are open seas and moods of nature filled with a special atmosphere. Colour is the key means of expression in her painting, especially a rich palette of blue, sky-blue and turquoise shades that conveys freshness, air and light.
The compact 40 × 30 cm format fits easily into a bedroom, study or small room, and the painting also looks good alongside other seascapes. The cool blue-grey palette goes well with interiors in grey, blue and white tones and with minimalist furniture. It will make a good gift for a man, a lover of the sea or anyone who appreciates calm night landscapes.
