He has also established himself as an authoritative art critic, a profound historian, an experienced restorer, a discerning art scholar, and a subtle poet. His oeuvre, grounded in the principles of Impressionism, is distinguished by its unique poetic quality and nostalgic sentiment.
Dmitry Korsun was born on November 9, 1959, in the picturesque village of Pniv in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. His pursuit of knowledge and art led him to earn two higher education degrees: one in History (Kyiv State Pedagogical Institute, 1982) and another in Fine Arts (Ukrainian Academy of Arts, 1995, studying under the esteemed pedagogue Viktor Puzyrkov).
It was his tutelage under Viktor Puzyrkov that significantly shaped Dmytro Korsun's artistic style, which is rooted in an Impressionistic perception of the world. His paintings are imbued with light, air, and the fleeting impressions characteristic of this movement.
Dmitry Korsun's active artistic career began in the late 1980s. From 1984 to 1986, he worked as a research fellow at the Kyiv History Museum, and from 1986 to 1990, he was involved in the restoration of monumental church paintings, demonstrating his profound understanding of art history and his masterful command of various techniques.
Since 1989, Dmytro Korsun has regularly participated in city, national, and international exhibitions. He has held over 20 solo exhibitions, both in Ukraine (Kyiv) and abroad (Moscow).
Beyond painting, Dmytro Korsun is known as the author of numerous scholarly articles on Ukrainian art and the work of prominent Ukrainian artists such as Tiberiy Silvashi, Anatoliy Kryvolap, Vladyslav Shereshevsky, and many others. His articles offer original interpretations of artists' creativity within the context of global and national artistic processes, showcasing his keen analytical mind and broad erudition.
In his painting, Dmytro Korsun pays particular attention to the urban landscape, creating nostalgic and poetic images of Kyiv streets and European capitals. His palette also includes portraits and icons.
In 2008, Dmytro Korsun became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, further acknowledging his significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian art.
Dmytro Korsun's works are held in prominent Kyiv galleries such as "Irena," "Triptych," "Krug," and "Griffin," as well as in private collections. Living and working in Kyiv, Dmytro Korsun continues to actively create, enriching Ukrainian culture with his multifaceted talent.
