Boyko Peter - Ukrainian artist

BOYKO Peter Borisovich (1954 г.р., Pryluky, Chernihiv Oblas.) – artist and collector, a talented and extraordinary personality, a person of boundless sincerity and openness, a real thirst for life, people and art. His name is inscribed in the book "The Golden Fund of the Nation".

Since the age of five and up to now he has been an avid collector. As a young man he belonged to the "hippie" movement, traveled extensively. For his rebellious anti-Soviet behavior he was repeatedly detained by the police and KGB. Taking his oppositional views on life into account, he was sent for military service in the Arkhangelsk region to the "stroybat" (building guard) and to a lumber camp.

In his own house-museum hundreds of samples of various kinds of paintings and antiquities. In addition to collecting, he is also an artist. He often went out with Priluki artists for sketches. And over time, in 1985, entered the Moscow All-Union Academy of Painting (teacher by profession - L. Kastorina), from which he graduated in 1993. During studies he took lessons from Ilya Glazunov, Zurab Tsereteli.

From 1980s he often travelled to Odessa, communicated with non-conformist artists, representatives of Odessa avant-garde, among whom were V. Basanets, E. Usov and Y. Kovalenko, as well as the painter from Priluki P. Mironenko. After that lessons of Yu. Kovalenko influenced much on outlook, creative manner, philosophy of life of P. Boyko.

Since 1992 he has been taking part in regional and all-Ukrainian exhibitions. Solo exhibitions were held in Chernihiv (2010), Kiev (2011), Odessa (2012). Member of the National Union of Ukraine (2012).

Special attention should be given to the exhibition "Ukrainian seasons of modern art in Hong Kong". As part of the project have been selected works of leading Ukrainian artists - Babchinskogo Andrew, Vadim Bondero, Inna Khasileva, Albina Yalosa and Peter Boiko.

Boyko Peter was one of the thirteen participants of the "Stilyagi in Kyiv" exhibition, which was held at the art gallery "Sofiyskaya" from December 13, 2008 to January 14, 2009.

The artist's work is characterized by an original, unique style. The past and the present are combined in the spiritual space of the artist. Perhaps he did not accidentally choose a direction in the art of transavantgarde (or neo-expressionism).

Works by Peter Boiko stored in the Museum of Modern Art Odessa, Odessa Literary Museum, Chernihiv Regional Art Museum. Galagan, in private collections in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Germany, Israel, USA.
