Provenance is information about the history of a work:

• belonging to private collections;
• participation in exhibitions;
• sales at auctions;
• mentions in publications.

One of the attributes of provenance is a catalogue dedicated to an exhibition, auction or art collection. In addition to its documentary function, the catalogue also has bibliographic value (the circulation rarely exceeds 1000 copies).
