Pentart Fine Cracks Craquelure Varnish Set, Two-Component, 2x50ml
- Overview
- Characteristics
Two-component water-based crackle varnish "Fineline" Used in aging techniques to create transparent, fine cracks on wood, veneer, MDF, cardboard, and glass surfaces. Component 1/2 of the varnish is used in conjunction with Component 2/2 of the same series. After drying, the varnish becomes transparent and glossy.
This set of varnishes can be used to create very fine cracks. The finished piece will have an effect similar to old, cracked porcelain, with barely visible cracks spaced well apart. The cracks in this craquelure are very large. Component 2/2 of this craquelure series has a yellowish tint, giving the surface an additional aged look. This is the only craquelure that requires sanding with non-water-based materials (patina, aging paste, or oil paints) to accentuate the cracks.
The second coat of varnish is not waterproof, so after it dries, the work must be coated with a solvent-based varnish.
When using a two-component varnish, the first component must dry completely before applying the second component. Drying typically takes about half an hour, but in cold or humid weather, this time may be longer. The second component can be applied even on the second day.
Directions for use: Apply component 1/2 to the decorated surface and leave until completely dry (30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the thickness of the applied varnish layer). Then apply component 2/2, which will form cracks as it dries (the first cracks will appear after 5 minutes). To improve the appearance of cracks, use a hair dryer (the cracking process is accelerated by heat). Rub the cracks with pigment, solvent-based patina, aging paste, or oil paints.
To apply varnishes, use soft synthetic flat brushes.
