The soft, yet flexible and controllable hair bundle holds its original shape well when dry and maintains it when wet. The round and angular shapes create a sharp tip, making it convenient for creating fine lines, painting fine details, and also allowing for easy access to small areas.

Flat brushes are used for applying broad, even strokes, painting backgrounds, and covering large surfaces. Level, angled tips are useful for creating smooth transitions from one color to another and for mixing colors on a palette. When working with thick paints, flat brushes help create impasto strokes.
