Watercolor Shadow of Mother Cupid and Eros, artist Pavlov Viktor

"Amor" and "Eros" are names for the same god of love in different mythologies. In ancient Greek mythology, he is called Eros, and in ancient Roman mythology, he is Amor (or Cupid).

The subject of the watercolor is a mythological allegory interpreted through the lens of postmodern sensibility. The female figure is almost spectral, seemingly dissolving into the background's depth, embodying a shadow, a maternal principle, an unseen presence in love and passion. Opposite her — a nude youth with a bow, easily recognizable as Amor or Eros, frozen in a state of confusion between playful childlike naiveté and awakening desire. The scene lacks linear perspective — the space appears enclosed, creating the effect of a theatrical backdrop or a dream. The color palette is restrained and symbolic: earthy, blue-green, and flesh tones prevail, enhancing the sensation of an ancient myth filtered through the artist's personal, psychological perception.

Pavlov Viktor (1947–2023) — an Odesa-based graphic artist, representative of the Odesa art school. His work is characterized by deep symbolism and an interest in mythological and philosophical themes. Pavlov's works combine classical academic schooling with elements of expressionism and abstraction. A special place in his creations is given to the theme of the human body as a conduit for the inner world and hidden emotions. Pavlov actively participated in Odesa's artistic life; his works are found in private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
